I was thinking, usually there's an icon saying "Human" or something like that right? Saying that's what race you play the most. So why not... change the "Custom" icon to automatically have the icon of said custom race and also when you mouse-over the icon say the exact-name of whatever empire you have [at least for the custom races].

Not really a feature that's desperately needed ; just throwing out an idea.
